The Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe is burning their marijuana crop.
The decision comes after government-to-government consultation with the United States. The tribe has decided to temporarily suspend its marijuana cultivation and distribution efforts.
In order to work towards the continued success of their marijuana program, the tribe has decided to burn and destroy all of the marijuana it has grown so far.
The tribe is planning to continue its consultation with the South Dakota state and federal governments. The FSST’s hope is to be granted parity with states that have legalized marijuana in the United States. The tribe is hoping to successfully participate in the marijuana industry, and has been since its decisions to legalize marijuana in June of 2015.
